Hungary4deco. Art Deco Furniture. Interview

By Interviewer at 11/08/07 15:58

Name of your website?

Hungary4deco. Art Deco Furniture.

Your name?

David Brooker

Your Location (city, etc)

Adony, Hungary

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Art Deco furniture from Hungary. We ship or should i say Van hungarian art deco furniture to the UK every month and sell it on Ebay and via the website.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The Ebay book, 'The perfect store'. I thought if that bloke Pierre can make a million (or was it a billion) then so could I. Im still optimistic, this time next year... :)

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

About 2 years ago and it was for selling watches. swiss balance watches, and its still going http://www.swissbalance.hu

How did you decide on a name for your website?

dont know really hungary4deco just came to me. To be honest i had the name before i had the website. I pondered decolicious.com but I had trouble spelling it.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

LOTS of photos. yeah i know too many photos will slow the website down but all good things come to those that wait.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Keep it. I would love for it to be my main income one day. But for now Im happy that the adsense ads are paying for the upkeep of the site.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I will have to let you know on that one! As I said above, the adsense ads sort of pay for the cost of the website, but actual sales to date do not cover the cost of my time so far. But I love the web design side of it, its like a hobby.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would ask a proffesional to do the website. I am working with a hungarian language version of Frontpage and because of my lack of hungarian language it took a week to discover just how to 'copy' and 'paste'. By week two i discovered 'hyperlinks' WOW what eureka moment that was! :)

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Thats good question. I often wonder what it would be like to not have time to open sackfuls of cheques that have been sent to you. Only 'Pierre' knows what that is like.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None at all to be honest. A slight glitch with the swiss balance site but nothing that set the migraines off.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Without a doubt the hungarian version of Frontpage! I still havent got it sussed.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Actually there is a hungarian directory called Startlap that i subscribed too which pulls in more clicks than Adwords at the moment. Unfortunately most of the clicks from the startlap site are obviously hungarian, hungary4deco is mainly english, and im trying to sell to the UK. Still, any hit is a good hit!

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site has been running for just over a year now. And I suppose I would keep it up as long as I enjoy doing it.

Replace this with a question of your own

What is your website address?

Hungary4deco. Art Deco Furniture.
