Thingz Interview

By Interviewer at 07/23/09 12:47

Name of your website?

Thingz

Your name?

Scott

Your Location (city, etc)

Scottsdale

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Our website features a number of items from our contemporary furniture and art collection. We also display a selection of modern lighting products.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Our customers were consistently asking us for catalogs. As a boutique interior design and furniture store, it is expensive and time-consuming to create a catalog. We opted to design a great website instead where we could keep our content fresh!

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Our first website was a very rudimentary website telling customer where to find our store. It was static and didn't have a lot of content.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The domain for our store name was taken. We decided to add the word contemporary -- even though it's not part of our official name -- as it tells people a bit more about who we are.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

More of our competitors show few products on their websites. We show a lot and are adding more contemporary furnishings and lighting each week!

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

We plan to open more stores and use our website to help educate people in new markets about what we do.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Not sure. Website development and marketing takes up a lot of time. If you're not enjoying it, a scaled-back effort may be more appropriate.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

We would add customizable galleries and interactive features.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yup! We've got great people.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Occassionally we've had server related issues but nothing our webhost or developers havn't been able to help with.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Find the time to populate our website.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Adwords.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It's been time consuming. Also driving organic traffic can be difficult.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

5 years.

What is your website address?

Thingz
