Adirondack Chair Interview

By Interviewer at 06/21/07 13:36

Name of your website?

Adirondack Chair

Your name?

Tom

Your Location (city, etc)

Kalispell

When did you start your website and why?

I launched this website approximately two years ago. While doing some research for the Adirondack chair's predecessor, the "Westport plank chair", discovered that there was not a whole lot of information about either subject, and only a few sites selling this great furniture. I saw this as an opportunity to start this website.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Information and shopping solutions. I provide some history of the product and links to sellers.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Keeping it fresh. Once you have said what needs to be said about any product, it is difficult to find something new to talk about. This is different if one was a manufacturer or full-line furniture store, but with such a highly-focused niche, what else is there to say?

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

I enjoy the web creaion process, so creating the site was fun. As a static presentation, it is easy to maintain as things seldom 'break'.

What was your biggest mistake?

Probably not acquiring more synergistic links. I could do more in soliciting theme-related links to other sites.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do. I enjoy this work and I am fairly adept at it.... keeps me off the streets at night :-)

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

The most obvious benefit for this (and most any website) is the expansion of awareness, which translates into more sales.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I believe that any business that intends to be in business down the road MUST have a website. It does not need to be a flashy, hi-tech-entertain-me site. Brochureware is still okay for many small businesses. People now use the net before they reach for the Yellow Pages. Every business needs to have their company's information online so that those who are looking for them will find them. Without this, they are losing business.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Critical for success if you intend to dominate a niche. If your goal is to do nothing more than have an informational site about how to contact your business, it is not as important. Meaning... if you want to dominate the "jewelry" niche, SEO is of the utmost importance. However, if all you want to do is provide contact and product information for "Joe's Jewelry Store in Toledo", SEO is not critical. Submit to any search engine and people looking for YOU will find you. People looking for jewelry will never find you.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Helped? They are the reason it thrives. Without Search Engines or good directories, the Internet would be worthless.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

A few well-placed links from good PR sites and small PPC campaigns.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Random linking.... worthless.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I'd like to see some accountability. I HATE spam and I hate those pure AdSense sites - you know the ones that have not one shred of legitimate information, but have a page covered with AdSense links.

Why should people go to your website?

People in general should NOT. It is not my goal to generate a million visitors. All I am interested in attracting are those looking for information - or want to buy Adirondack furniture. I would rather have 5 serious shoppers than 5 million random visitors.

What is your website address?

The Ultimate Computer Desk with Built in Mini Fridge

By Fred Keebler at 06/21/07 10:16
I could get rich for this idea. I'm throwing around ideas for an Ultimate Computer Desk. This design would have enough room for your monitor, tower, keyboard, desk riser and everything else you need. It would have a built-in mini refridgerator, so you don't have to stop what you're doing to get yourself some refreshments. A chair would be included with this desk as well. It would be state-of-the-art and extremely comfortable. So comfortable you wouldn't want to get up, and by that happening, you could ultimately get more work done.

The desk would also have storage for all your supply needs. There would be a different place for all your paper needs. Now wouldn't a desk like that make anybody's life so much easier?

How to Steal Deals from the Furniture Outlets

By Brian White at 06/18/07 09:10
If you're looking for furniture, you refuse to buy it used, and you're not willing to pay full fare at the premium retail stores, you can reduce your purchasing costs by at least half, and that's without even being too smart about it. Read this and be smart, I'll save you more and your backside will thank me to boot.

- Most furniture outlets, whether liquidation or factory-direct outlets, sell just two kinds of furniture; Handsome but uncomfortable, or comfy/cozy but hideous. Pick carefully and know your taste, but always give your heiny a test drive on the springs.

- Don't shop by price, when appearance is critical, and don't shop by appearance if you actually plan to spend 4-hours a night watching the boob tube.

- Remember that it's all made in China either way, so none of the non-designer brands are any worse than the next, so shop by price and comfort exclusively.

- Forget about name brands. They'll only mean anything to maybe two guests since forever, so don't put down an extra ten-grand for that prestige, unless those two persons can benefit you directly more than five-grand a head. It's the same advice I give to would-be Rolex buyers. Nobody cares but you, let the notion go.

- Make sure the springs don't probe you in the back worse than alien abduction crafts. Nothing against it, sounds a bit curious, but I'd only agree to it as it pertains to legitimate space aliens, not just discounted pine crafted by quasi-slave-labor. Also nothing against quasi-slave-labor, I just think what you get should be equal parts attractive and comfy.

- Know what furniture costs, and don't pay even half of what you'd expect to pay at the premium outlets.

- Ask about cash discounts. If that fails, ask about "better-than-cash" financing, but pay it off in the first month.

- Consider buying "returns" from the likes of Rent-A-Center instead of purchasing new. It's mid-grade furniture, and it isn't bad stuff. It's kind of worn, but it's rock-bottom priced, usually, so just make sure the numbers work and call it a day.

- Hotel returns are cheap too, if you can find them. Hotels usually turn over the property in short order, and you'll get damn-near new stuff at "just take out garbage" prices.

- Ignore the scratch or minor tear to the upholstery. You'll put the scratch there yourself in three-months either way, so for $200 off, maybe it's worth consideration.

Durable and Great Looking Office Furniture

By Sharon at 06/08/07 13:41
Some of the Iceberg Enterprises products are noted as having Resinite construction. For those of you wondering what this means I have attempted to share what I found out.

The desks are made using a plastic material called HDPE, or High Density Polyethylene and include reinforcement bars of steel under the panels or tabletop. The combination of the plastic and steel is what Iceberg calls Resinite. Resin is the raw material used with pigments and other materials that becomes HDPE. The desktops are foam filled for additional strength.

This durable and attractive office furniture from Iceberg, with the exception of the Aspira Wood pieces, are great for "clean environments" like hospitals because they can be disinfected easily. And of course, if they are good for clean rooms, they would also be good for areas that children wander in because they wipe down easily. We have all been there who have children right?

The Resinite furniture is durable and resists dents, scratches, and chipping.

The desk inlays are made of polystrene, another form of plastic.

Millcraft Outdoor Furniture Interview

By Interviewer at 06/07/07 16:11
Name of your website?

Millcraft Outdoor Furniture

Your name?

Josh

Your Location (city, etc)

New Holland

When did you start your website and why?

We started the website three years ago because we wanted to bring our outdoor furniture to a wider geographic area, because up till then we mostly sold on the East coast.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

We manufacture outdoor furniture from recycled plastic lumber. We also make the recycled plastic lumber so we can offer 17 beautiful colors. That is more than any of our competitors.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Keeping the website up to date is difficult and getting it listed well in search engines so people can find it.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Talking to customers. We love hearing what people think of our furniture and the people we talk to love to tell us how much they like the furniture.

What was your biggest mistake?

The biggest mistake was under estimating the amount of time it takes for the search engines to list a website. We didn't realize it would take so long before they started sending traffic.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do. I know enough about how things work to make it happen.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

We have been forced to be more efficient with everything because customers on the web demand small lead time, whereas our dealers expect a little longer wait.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I think ecommerce can only get larger and more efficient.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

It is a necessary evil. It would be nice if search engines just automatically told all the customers that are looking for your type of product where you are at, but that is not the case.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

We wouldn't have any sales without search engines. They can be rather hard to understand at times, though.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Google Adwords

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Direct Mail

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I would love to see a lot of the cruft go away. Scraped sites, spam, viruses could go away and not be missed.

What is your favorite NFL team?

The New England Patriots! Go Pats!
