If you need furniture, and you're the sort of consumer that can't stomach hand-me-garbage furniture, it isn't all bad to shop at Ikea. But if you're broke, like I've been so much of my life, you may not be able to afford the full she-bang of those brilliant Swedes. Your local department store, like Target, Wal-Mart or others, may have the same sort of stuff, but even cheaper… it's okay, just so you know. The stuff is utilitarian, and although it's only 90% as good as Ikea furniture, whom in that same ubiquitous heck would ever notice. It's every bit as durable, but usually cheaper and almost always closer to home. Ikea stores are big, so they can't be in every neighborhood. It's all disposable either way, so don't sweat the details. Tags: pine furniture • cheap furniture • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

If you're moving somewhere, overseas or across the country, and it's too far to take your furniture, you're going to have to stock your house with couches, chairs and dressers in order to live. I had a friend who moved to China for three-years, and he couldn't afford the cheap, disposable stuff. Instead of $1,000 worth of garbage, he bought $5,000 worth of antiques.China's laws are sticky when it comes to taking antiques out of the country, but he didn't want to do that. That's okay, he never wanted to. Instead he lived with the finest, most exquisite furniture for three-years, and when it came time to move, sold it all back onto the market at a $1,000 profit. If you can afford to front the extra couple grand, and can be cautious in buying and selling, you can have amazing, historic furniture, and not just for free, but for less than free… for a profit. If you need a household appliance, no matter what the grade or reason, you can save easily half the price by shopping the scratch and dent outlet, and still get a full warranty. You may have to drive all the way to the nearest "big city", but your regional Sears or other major appliance outlet has an outlet for scratch and dent appliances. They may be demo returns, or have insignificant damage you won't even notice once you put it in the cabinet. They're still "new", and carry every bit as much warranty, but you can get a deluxe model for the cost of a bare-bones basic one, or an entry level product at a big discount. There isn't a fancy showroom or elaborate [404 Check: was link to http:/ / shopping106. blogspot. com/ 2007/ 05/ grocery -shopping. html, anchor: home-delivery] options, but for $200 to $500 consumers, find it a worthwhile concession.
