Recommendations for Identifying, Evaluating and Selecting New and Antique Oriental Rugs and Carpets with Traditional Motifs, Patterns, Symbols and Histories.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I love oriental rugs. I am so impressed when i saw a tourist amazed by a beautiful Turkish carpet while shopping in Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Oriental rugs are all handmade, its fine art. I want to inform all the world to see and learn more of these beautiful fine art pieces.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first website.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I want it to be related with the topic.Easy to be remembered. I laugh at some examples names like pongobongo :D
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
My website is easy to navigate. This is not a seller's website. I think of people's needs and demands. They want to know how to remove a wine spot on their beautiful and expensive rug. They want to learn how to bargain. Thats why my website is simple.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I want my website to be a complete source for everyone who is interested in oriental rugs. I want to serve everything they look for.I am not thinking of selling rugs. I am not a salesman.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Its all about time.Creating a reliable website is not easy. You need to spend lots of time for it and you have to wait. People should like it. So it takes too much time but its worth for that.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would put the best pictures of every kind of oriental rug. I would have a better website design. I would have 7/24 free support for people's questions. I would have an identification system of handmade oriental rugs and i will let everyone to see every fine piece all around the world.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Of course. I am thinking of putting some adds and i will invest all the income for the development of the website.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
I am not a native speaker. I am Turkish. It is really difficult to my thoughts in a way that people like. Writing content was the biggest headache. There are some grammar and spelling mistakes in my website. I am sorry for that. I try my best.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Oriental Rugs is a very competitive subject. There are many websites and to be listed in first results on google is very hard.But i believe google is getting smarter and it will give more importance to value. Ten my website will be listed higher.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Rich content. Content is the king of the website, Traffic is the queen. When i published more pages, my pages get listed on google and people find my website from specific keywords. Search Engines is best way to promote my website and its free.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
This is my first website, thats why it was hard to make expectations at first. Because i didn't know anything. I didn't know what to expect. All i was doing creating content, publishing and wait.But now i can make better estimations.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It has been 8 months and its growing day by day.My traffic is also growing. I will always continue to publish it. I will never give up. That's my passion. :)
What do you need to do to give your visitors your best?
I think both two sides has responsibility. Both me and visitors. Their feedback is so important. Its impossible to know what is in their head. What they want. If they share their opinions, and when they like if they recommend it to a friend then web will be a better place.
