Your name?
Cynthia Carlson
Your Location (city, etc)
Houghton Lake (the largest inland lake in the state)
Please give us a short summary of your website?
My web site gives a quick overview of what we offer for sale. It gives a history of how the business was started and has grown over the last 11 years. The website shows our television commercial and some of our everyday great prices on items we sell.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
My customers did, many of them are from other parts of the state. They wanted a way to share items I had for sale with their friends and family.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
the first website was launched in 2008 and it is the only one I have.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I used the business name.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It offers a viewing of the first Amish Oak and rustic furniture store in the Houghton Lake area. It is a mix of traditional and rustic home decor items. A mix that I started in 1998 and now 11 years later it is the rage in home decor.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To have more people become aware of what we offer and who we are. To show in this era of big box chains that there still are small stores where the customer is important to us. We try to sell as much made in Michigan and Made in America products as we can.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I love what I do, the store is a reflection of my self and I am very happy and proud or our success.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been being a single Mom and starting this venture. My son was 6 when I started this and learning the balance was interesting at first. Family is always first for us and it was a challenge at first yet my customers understand my family values.
