Wicker Living Interview

By Interviewer at 06/22/07 21:50
Pennsylvania, Wicker and Rattan Furniture: The Wickerman Name of your website?

Wicker Living

Your name?

Bruce Bolbat

Your Location (city, etc)

Hellertown PA

When did you establish your website and why?

Wicker Living was established in June 2006 to serve interested customers with fine wicker and rattan products and service.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Wicker Living's website business model is designed toward helping consumer's easily find the wicker and rattan products they want at fair market prices. The consumer knows what they would get and have to pay for our products by looking at crisp clear images and reading the site content descriptions. There are no hidden prices and our policies are clearly posted for review.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The most difficult part of creating and running our Wicker Living website is trying to make it visible to people doing searches for our products. That requires a significant amount of constant search engine optimization work and link building.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The easiest part of operating Wicker Living is writing the content. When you know the details as well as we do, the content comes easy. We know what people are looking for so we provide that information.

What was your biggest mistake?

The biggest mistake is taking things for granted and that they will fix themselves. They don't, you have to be on top of every little detail all the time or your will fail and you will fail your customers.

Who maintains your website and why?

The Wickerman, Bruce Bolbat, is the owner, operator and webmaster of WickerLiving.com. It took a few expensive mistakes letting others get involved with website design and control prior to establishing Wicker Living. The Wickerman is now in charge and forever more.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

WickerLiving.com is a relatively new website. As such, it is difficult to begin attracting customers. The quality design of the website, ease of navigation and the great pricing and free shipping are attracting more people to the site. The site is search engine friendly allowing Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines the opportunity to bring customers to a quality website to find what they want.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Right now, about 3% of all purchases are made on the internet. This percentage grows every year and it is expected that as the younger generation matures, this percentage will be significant. A merchant can't expect to be be a player, unless they have an ecommerce website. A company that caters to what people want and what they need, and provides excellent customer service, will be a winner.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Without optimizing your website for search engines to find content and key words, customers won't be able to find sites that offer quality merchandise. Therefore, SEO is a continuous must.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Search engines are the key to the internet. You would not be able to find anything without them. As they compete for position, users of the internet benefit by finding what they are looking for faster and easier.

At the same time, search engines require webmasters to refine their websites with more quality and less spam. Thats a good thing, but it requires significantly more work and expense for the webmasters. This will likely drive website ecommerce prices up.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Relevant backlinks play an important roll along with news articles and strategically designed ads. Pay-per-click ads are also important, but must be carefully done or it can be an expensive mistake.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

The least successful thing is signing up with Directories and websites with no relevance to Wicker Living.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I would like to see junk and spam sites stricken and sent into oblivion. That goes for spam email too.

Why would anyone want to visit and shop at WickerLiving.com?

People would want to shop at Wicker Living because it has a huge selection of over 500 wicker furniture and home decor products that are available in many styles and finish. The website is extremely user friendly designed with the consumer in mind. It does not take more than three clicks to get to any product details. Wicker Living has one of the largest selections of deluxe furniture cushions and fabric available on line. All wicker and rattan products are hand crafted and of high quality and durability and are warranted for 1 year. The service you receive is excellent. Shipping is free so customers don't have to worry about comparing prices and worrying about handling and other hidden fees. When you contact Wicker Living with questions, you get a friendly representative that will actually help you.

Adirondack Chair Interview

By Interviewer at 06/21/07 13:36
Name of your website?

Adirondack Chair

Your name?

Tom

Your Location (city, etc)

Kalispell

When did you start your website and why?

I launched this website approximately two years ago. While doing some research for the Adirondack chair's predecessor, the "Westport plank chair", discovered that there was not a whole lot of information about either subject, and only a few sites selling this great furniture. I saw this as an opportunity to start this website.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Information and shopping solutions. I provide some history of the product and links to sellers.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Keeping it fresh. Once you have said what needs to be said about any product, it is difficult to find something new to talk about. This is different if one was a manufacturer or full-line furniture store, but with such a highly-focused niche, what else is there to say?

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

I enjoy the web creaion process, so creating the site was fun. As a static presentation, it is easy to maintain as things seldom 'break'.

What was your biggest mistake?

Probably not acquiring more synergistic links. I could do more in soliciting theme-related links to other sites.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do. I enjoy this work and I am fairly adept at it.... keeps me off the streets at night :-)

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

The most obvious benefit for this (and most any website) is the expansion of awareness, which translates into more sales.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I believe that any business that intends to be in business down the road MUST have a website. It does not need to be a flashy, hi-tech-entertain-me site. Brochureware is still okay for many small businesses. People now use the net before they reach for the Yellow Pages. Every business needs to have their company's information online so that those who are looking for them will find them. Without this, they are losing business.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Critical for success if you intend to dominate a niche. If your goal is to do nothing more than have an informational site about how to contact your business, it is not as important. Meaning... if you want to dominate the "jewelry" niche, SEO is of the utmost importance. However, if all you want to do is provide contact and product information for "Joe's Jewelry Store in Toledo", SEO is not critical. Submit to any search engine and people looking for YOU will find you. People looking for jewelry will never find you.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Helped? They are the reason it thrives. Without Search Engines or good directories, the Internet would be worthless.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

A few well-placed links from good PR sites and small PPC campaigns.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Random linking.... worthless.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I'd like to see some accountability. I HATE spam and I hate those pure AdSense sites - you know the ones that have not one shred of legitimate information, but have a page covered with AdSense links.

Why should people go to your website?

People in general should NOT. It is not my goal to generate a million visitors. All I am interested in attracting are those looking for information - or want to buy Adirondack furniture. I would rather have 5 serious shoppers than 5 million random visitors.

What is your website address?

Millcraft Outdoor Furniture Interview

By Interviewer at 06/07/07 16:11
Name of your website?

Millcraft Outdoor Furniture

Your name?

Josh

Your Location (city, etc)

New Holland

When did you start your website and why?

We started the website three years ago because we wanted to bring our outdoor furniture to a wider geographic area, because up till then we mostly sold on the East coast.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

We manufacture outdoor furniture from recycled plastic lumber. We also make the recycled plastic lumber so we can offer 17 beautiful colors. That is more than any of our competitors.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Keeping the website up to date is difficult and getting it listed well in search engines so people can find it.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Talking to customers. We love hearing what people think of our furniture and the people we talk to love to tell us how much they like the furniture.

What was your biggest mistake?

The biggest mistake was under estimating the amount of time it takes for the search engines to list a website. We didn't realize it would take so long before they started sending traffic.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do. I know enough about how things work to make it happen.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

We have been forced to be more efficient with everything because customers on the web demand small lead time, whereas our dealers expect a little longer wait.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I think ecommerce can only get larger and more efficient.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

It is a necessary evil. It would be nice if search engines just automatically told all the customers that are looking for your type of product where you are at, but that is not the case.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

We wouldn't have any sales without search engines. They can be rather hard to understand at times, though.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Google Adwords

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Direct Mail

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I would love to see a lot of the cruft go away. Scraped sites, spam, viruses could go away and not be missed.

What is your favorite NFL team?

The New England Patriots! Go Pats!
