Rustic Twig and Log Furniture by Alder Brook Interview

By Interviewer at 05/08/07 08:39
Name of your website?

Rustic Twig and Log Furniture by Alder Brook

Your name?

Rene Guay

Your Location (city, etc)

Dennistown Plantation, Maine 10 miles south of the Quebec,Canada border on rt 201.

When did you start your website and why?

1986, to market my furniture.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

My website is a store front of the Rustic Twig and Log furniture we design and make, along with some other products from artisians in my local area. We have shipped all over the U.S. and in Canada.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The most difficult part has been the continuation of being found in organic searches. Much effort and expense is put into staying within the reasonable searchs. In otherwords, the first three pages of the strongest search engines.

What has been the easist past of operating your website?

As time passes, technical opportunities increase, which offer more to the website owner.

Who maintains your website and why?

I maintain my own website. Simply to keep expenses down.

Tell us how your business has benfited from your website?

I live in a very remote location. Without my website, I would not be selling much rustic twig and log furniture.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I believe e-commerce and the internet are here to stay, and will be the major source for businesses marketing their products. But I also believe many changes lay ahead of us all. The key will be to learn how to keep up with and survive the upcoming changes.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I think it is necessary to survive in the organic search world. But I also believe SEO companies are taking advantage of businesses desperately seeking better page rank, and are charging outrages prices. But like the old saying goes, "what goes around, comes around". I am learning how to optimize my own site, and when I do, as many other companies are doing, SEO companies will need to find another bank to rob!

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

The name says it best Search " Engine". That is like asking, "has the engine in your vehicle helped or hindered your vehicle?"

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Optimization, including better content, meta tags, and linking.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Pay per Click. This is getting also outrages in cost, and I believe it too will meet it's demise. PPC's moto should be " advertise with us and let your competitor click you to the poor house!"

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Respect to small business's in this country instead of trying to make a million off of their needs! We need to all work together in the internet, or else there will be a day when we are standing alone!

What is your website address?
